Matt - or is that M@ - Kennedy...

Matt Kennedy is an Aussie Irishman who lived in Ireland for almost two years at the middle/end of the Celtic Weasel dotcomb bubble thing, had great crack with us in our pubs, worked in places like Manleys and Puca. He's a great designer in both web and print. He also did some hilariously funny rants on various email discussion lists.

Then he got fed up of the place and decided to move to Edinburgh, where he still does a bit of freelance illustration work.

As for his time in Ireland, he says:

<aussie accent>
"It's a great place and the people have so much going for them... But the feckers couldn't drive a nail through a lump of warm shit.

"The Irish are without doubt, the scariest drivers I've ever seen, and most of them either drive without a licence, or they drive FOR YEARS on their learners permit, never having done (or passed) a full licence test."
</aussie accent>

Check out Matt's take on Irish drivers and if you've ever met him, you can just imagine him talking through it with a thick red marker and his strong Aussie accent attacking the newspaper article in question.

Not sure if Matt's blog is up to date, but have a peek at his portfolio of work, and check out http://www.matthk.net

Matt Kennedy, Blognation salutes you!!!

That is he. I don't think a large amount of people onactually "got" Matt. He was all for a good argie-bargie argument and a lot of posters were far too po-faced about him.

Tis I.
Calmer (a bit), wiser ( a matter of opinion), fatter (Scots would have deep-fried sex if they could) and enjoying Edinburgh.

Apparently, Edinburgh is the UK's most uptight, conservative city (so they say) but it was like moving to a drugged-up hippy colony after living in Dublin (and, um, Ennis).
Lots more "edgy" stuff going on, a more ethnically diverse population and HILLS (oh how this Sydney/Blue Mountains boy misses hills after Dublin and Melbourne!) meant that I felt more at home here almost straight away.

The Scots are great (as great as 2nd-hand Irish can be) but not as funny as the Irish, (Cork folk are of course, the funniest people on the planet, even funnier than American politicians) and not as feisty and up for a bit of controversial banter.

I've been here 3 years now, but strangely, it hasn't had as much impact on me as my 2 years in Ireland. It may sound twee, but Dublin is home, no matter how much the place would shit me from time to time.

I miss a lot about Ireland - Crookhaven in West Cork, The Burren, what's left of Galway, a PROPER Guinness, Smithwicks, Club Orange, La Cave Bar, Bang! Restaurant, The Unicorn, Mulligans, vomit & pee in Georgian doorways post fri/sat nights, taxi queues etc) but mostly I miss my mates and the banter.

I hope to get over to the old town sometime soon.
Maybe I can catch one or two of you for a pint and a rant.

And drop me a line if any of you are in Edinburgh.
cheers,
m@
